I think that it should have a matt black finish. Black but with a grey dry brushed effect, industrial looking. Our logo will stand out this way and the simple colour scheme with the light effects of the grey will make it easy on the eye.
When we have made people aware of our brand and identified ourselves in the market we can start to change color schemes and go for more exciting visual effects. Like the Cylon fighter look but in neon pink :)

I think all the above  , definately matt with a rubberised texture, the logo could be just the circle element (similar to the Sony Ericsson)but semi-transparant with a white led behind it, so when you power up it lights up the logo as the 'ON' light.

I would defiantly be up for a hot pink model!

or maybe an artist series, each model customised by artists!

Yeah i like the idea of different artists doing different models but then again thats a real pain in the bum to pull off at this stage. you can make your own customized fx and background screens though!

Slate grey and not so dark that you can't see it on an unlit stage.

Yeah, go with that, think it needs something like the iPhone (reflective shiny surround) so you can see it in the dark. Maybe have a low powered led lighting a ring around the device?
